Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Bulla Ki Jaana Mai Kaun - मुल्ला की जाना मैं कौन
The Mullah asks, who am I?
Not a believer within the mosque's eye,
Nor bound by rites of blasphemy’s tie,
Nor pure nor defiled, beneath any sky.
Within Vedas and scriptures, I’m not found,
Nor dwell in the haze of hashish, around,
Nor lost in a drunken, chaotic ground.
I embrace neither joy nor the shadowed gloom,
Nor stained by pollution, nor sealed in a tomb.
I am neither water, nor earthy fume,
Neither fire's embrace, nor the wind's soft plume.
The Mullah asks, who am I?
The Mullah asks, who am I?
The Mullah asks, who am I?
The Mullah asks, who am I?
I am not Arab, nor of Lahore's way,
Nor Hindi, nor dweller of Nagaur’s day,
No Hindu, nor Turk, in Peshawar's sway.
I have found no sect, no creed to obey,
Not born of Adam, nor Eve's gentle lay,
Nor any name do I claim, this very day.
From the first to the last, I know only You,
No other I seek, no other I view,
Beyond sweet and clever, in all I pursue.
Mullah Shah, who stands here, true?
The Mullah asks, who am I?
I am not Moses, nor Pharaoh's decree,
Not in waking’s light, nor in sleep's reverie,
Not a dweller of Naudun, wild and free,
Nor in the world's pleasure, for all to see.
Mullah Shah, who stands here, true?
The Mullah asks, who am I?
Not a believer within the mosque's eye,
Nor bound by rites of blasphemy’s tie,
Nor pure nor defiled, beneath any sky.
Within Vedas and scriptures, I’m not found,
