Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Maiya Mori Main Nahi Makhan Khayo - मैया मोरी, मैं नहीं माखन खायो
Mother mine, I have not stolen the butter,
Why, hearing tales, do you lay this falsehood on me?
Oh, Mother mine, I have not stolen the butter.
Upon the Yamuna's banks, with friends, a cowherd I played,
Herding the cows, playing flute as evening swayed.
Hunger struck, I ran and ran, straight home I came,
Mother mine, I have not stolen the butter…
I broke no pot, nor did I steal a thing,
Why do you deem me false, O Mother, questioning?
How did you see my own self as something estranged?
Mother mine, I have not stolen the butter…
I am Nand's son, why should I be called a thief?
What lack have I at home, to seek outside relief?
Hearing this, Mother Yashoda laughed, and held me near,
Then she spoke:
You have not stolen the butter.
My Krishna, you have not stolen the butter.
